Arthur Powers, a lawyer (Harvard Law '75), has been employed by Raytheon since 1997 as general counsel of Raytheon in Brazil. In his new position at JPS, Powers will be responsible for developing and overseeing all contracts, alliances, teaming agreements and bidding. He will aid in the growth of the company, with a focus on the private sector and international markets. Powers also will be responsible for providing support to all aspects of corporate development. Prior to joining Raytheon, he was the director in Brazil of international relief and development projects for Catholic Relief Services and USAID, a human rights worker and pastoral agent for the Catholic Church in the Amazon, an international lawyer at Bank of Boston and at Baker & McKenzie, and a corporate lawyer at Schiff, Hardin & Waite in Chicago. Powers also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Brazil. Powers received his juris doctoral degree from Harvard Law School and his bachelor's degree from Shimer College. He is presently working on his dissertation for his doctorate of philosophy in Natural Resources Policy from the University of New Hampshire. Powers received training from Harvard in mediation and from FASE in Brazil in community organization.
